Jakarta – Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Anwar Makarim said that he stressed the principle of sustainability to ensure the Merdeka Belajar policy continues and all targets will be achieved in the next 15 years.
“Everything we do in Merdeka Belajar is the principle of sustainability to reach critical mass (minimum limit) of around 20 percent. This is to ensure good conditions for the education system to operate independently and cannot be reversed,” Nadiem said in a teleconference at the Work Meeting with the House of Representatives Commission X in Jakarta on Thursday.
The principle of sustainability, he said, was adopted, by revising various laws and regulations, one of which was the Law on the National Education System (Sisdiknas).
The Ministry of Education and Culture also revised various technical regulations aimed at simplifying administrative processes and expanding the reach of beneficiaries. An example is the simplification of the mechanism for disbursing school operational assistance funds (BOS) while simultaneously expanding its reach to private schools.
In addition, the transformation of internal leadership, both within the ministry and at the local government level, is an important factor. In parallel, the Ministry of Education and Culture also continues to integrate the role of third parties in the national education system.
The Minister of Education and Culture exemplifies the active role of the business and industrial world in vocational and higher education. During this time, the work of volunteers and the educational community has supported the Mobilization Organization and Mobilization Schools program.
The business community and volunteers from the community have also proven capable of supporting the distance learning process in the midst of difficult situations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Whatever happens in the government, the mobilizing groups that are formed can continue,” Nadiem said.
The Minister of Education and Culture explained, there were 11 targets which became the main focus of Merdeka Belajar Tahun 2030-2035. Six targets are in the primary and secondary education categories, two targets in the governance category, and three targets in the vocational education and higher education categories. (Ant)
