Jakarta – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said that the handling of COVID-19 and narcotics, psychotropic drugs and drugs requires the same standard, which guarantees the right of people to live and develop optimally.
“The handling of narcotics and COVID-19 requires the same standards, namely to provide guarantees and protect the rights of the people to be able to live, grow and develop optimally,” said the Vice President Ma’ruf when giving a speech at the Opening of the Peak Commemoration of International Anti Narcotics Day in Jakarta, Friday.
Ma’ruf said that COVID-19 and drugs are common enemies that must be eradicated because both of them are serious threats. If the threat is not immediately addressed early on, the impact will be huge for development.
“Both COVID-19 and drugs are serious threats. The impact is multidimensional. Entering from the state to reaching the smallest unit of society, namely the family,” he said.
In an effort to eradicate drugs, the Vice President appreciated the performance of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) which promoted the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Dark Abuse and Circulation (P4GN) program.
“Many real achievements have been achieved, so as to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse, which in 2011 was 2.23% to 1.80% in 2019,” said the Vice President.
Based on these achievements, the Government will continue the P4GN program through the issuance of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 2 of 2020 which instructs all cabinet levels to take national action on P4GN.
“The government is strongly committed in continuing the program, narcotics eradication. Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2020 has been ratified. Its contents instruct that the entire Indonesian Cabinet Forward, Attorney General, National Police Chief, Armed Forces Commander, Head of BIN, Non-Ministry Government Institutions, Governors, Regents and Mayor to carry out P4GN National Action, “he said.
International Anti Narcotics Day is an initiation of the United Nations (UN) which is commemorated on June 26 each year. The theme of the commemoration of International Anti Narcotics Day in Indonesia is in harmony with the condition of the 19th COVID pandemic that struck.
“The theme of the HANI event in 2020 is very precise, that is” living 100 percent in the new normal era “; conscious, healthy, productive and happy without drugs. This means that we all must strive to survive 100 percent by staying conscious, healthy, productive and happy,” he said. (Ant)
