Jakarta – Indonesian House Speaker Puan Maharani said during the commemoration of the International Anti-Narcotics Day on June 26, he invited all countries to continue to strengthen global cooperation in combating drugs.
“We must never let our guard down against drugs and never give room for drug trafficking and abuse. We must protect the young generation and the future of the Indonesian nation,” Puan said in a statement here on Friday.
He said this when attending a ceremony commemorating the International Anti Narcotics Day (HANI) held by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) virtually on Friday.
According to Puan, the International Anti-narcotics Day ceremony was a reminder that the world was facing the problem of the dangers of narcotics.
He said, the problem of the dangers of drugs occurred not only in Indonesia, but many countries faced the same problem.
The PDI-P politician assessed that the crime of narcotics and drug abuse, or drugs, is generally cross-country in nature.
“This is a transnational crime. The distribution channel is international and the actors are interrelated even though they are from different countries,” he said.
Puan reminds of the destructive power of drugs for the survival of a nation because it is very clear and real that drugs damage human lives, including our young generation.
“Imagine, the young generation that we hope to be the successor to the nation, is ruined by drugs. It means that if our young generation is damaged by drugs, then the nation’s future will also be damaged,” he said.
