[DIREKTORI] Entrepreneur Of The Year 2004 Finalists: Johannes first entrepreneurial activities were as an Educational Consultant when he established Dian Edukasindo, which provided overseas university placement services to students and civil servants of government agencies.
In 1993, recognizing that there was a need for Indonesian that aspired to school with international standards for students whose parents did not want to send their children abroad at a very young age.
Johannes established Sekolah Pelita Harapan targeting the middle to upper income segments and in 1994, he founded Universitas Pelita Harapan. In 1995, he established Sekolah Dian Harapan for the middle income group, and in 1998, Sekolah Lentera Harapan for the lower income group.
After ten years, Johannes has built a community of educational institutions offering curriculums ranging from the kindergarten level to doctoral programs for students from all economic levels. Johannes believes that education should be run like an industry and not be based on philanthropy. The earning profits ensure investment in highly qualified faculty members, curriculum, and facilities, as well as scholarships and cross-subsidies for the less privileged.
Today, the Pelita Harapan Foundation has more than 8000 students in five Sekolah Pelita Harapan, offering National Plus and International Baccalaureate syllabuses; three Sekolah Dian Harapan in Java and Sulawesi and four Sekolah Lentera Harapan in Java and Sumatra, as well as an Universitas Pelita Harapan offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. To keep up with modern technology, Universitas Pelita Harapan is the first Indonesian university with a Cyber Campus where teaching and learning can be conducted using mobile and wireless technologies. e-ti, sumber ey.com
